Growing up, learning to drive in Wisconsin, you get used to certain things that could possibly run out in the middle of the road, causing you and them damage.: deer, raccoon, opossum, turkey, fox. You know, normal critters. Yesterday, I was out driving around and I almost had a front-end collision with… a Peacock. Seriously.

I am not ashamed to say that I have been grooving to “Backstreet Boys Radio” on Pandora. A lot. Usually when I am cleaning, or writing. So you can guess what’s on right now.

I had something kind of snarky written about a picture I saw floating around FB. But then Simcha’ blog came through. And I deleted. Read Simcha’s post here.

Tuesday, I went to a “positive communication” workshop with the Junior League. One of the things suggested was to eliminate the word “TRY” from your vocabulary… unless you are using it to say something like, “Yes, I’d love to try fly fishing.”

One of my goals has been to get up earlier than the girls. Part of the issue is that DD2 wanders into our bed and as soon as I get up, she’s up. But Wednesday night, I bit the bullet… set my alarm (“The Final Countdown” by Europe, for those who want to know) and got up. DD2 did follow 15 minutes later, but I got a lot done in 15 minutes! Which made for a better day.

The main reason for the better day was not because I got a bit of quiet time before diving into mothering for the day, but because I was able to intercept my daughters before they headed into the kitchen to make breakfast for themselves. “What?” you say, “It’s great your kids are making breakfast!” Sure… however mayonnaise and mustard sandwiches or cookies (and the mess that follows) does not a good breakfast make.

Miles logged for the Pasadena Half: 0. But I did find a new park in which running would be divine! Part of my issue is that I have two kids to drag take running with me. DD1 could ride her bike along, but I like the control aspect of being able to go as far as I want w/o worrying about whether she can make it the whole way. Anyone want to fund a double jogger for me?

I like reading your blog, partly because I think that you embody a lot of the mothering traits that I hope to, partly because you’re funny & you write well, partly because I agree with you (and, of course, it’s human nature to only read that with which we agree), but also because you make motherhood seem “do-able.”
When Adam & I got married we had every intention of abstaining, but after only four months or so, we both started to feel like maybe that wasn’t the right plan. I’m afraid of being a mom – it’s an enormous responsibility, and I plan on continuing to work, which complicates things to say the least – but when I read your blog, I feel like it’s possible.
I hope that you read that as the compliment it was intended to be, and not as an Irish, backward insult, which I’m afraid it might come off as.
You’re clearly doing a good job, and you write about it in such a way that I feel like I could do a good job, too.
We’ve been married almost three years and still don’t feel quite ready. It’s so reassuring to know that people DO become mothers and it’s OKAY.
Are you telling me Spaghettios and meatballs is a no for breakfast? What about cookie crisp? I thought breakfast was the gimme meal of the day…sigh…I have some work to do
. Good to hear you found a good park. Are you sure you want a double-jogger? Using a single just about killed me. Perhaps evening running?
Peacock? lol I’ve almost hit turkey a few times out here in Kansas but not a Peacock. As always great reads!!
