This is a question that I have been pondering for a while. Is romance something that you can do? Or is it more of a feeling?
I think of some classical, romantic couples, both fictional and non-fictional and there really is not rhyme or reason to what constitutes romance. Think about:
Bates and Anna
Darcy and Elizabeth
Marianne and Col. Brandon
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier
Edward and Wallace
Charles and Caroline (Ma and Pa from the Little House Books)
Laura and Almonzo
Will and Anna Scott
Yesterday, DH kept the girls home from Mass as DD1 just started her meds for Shingles and DD2 was snotty and coughy. While I was gone, he cleaned the house, stripped the beds and did the laundry. Was I over the moon with appreciation? You, betcha! Was it particularity romantic?
Eh… not really.
Maybe it’s because he did help me with my work, but it is not like the work disappeared forever. The work is still there this morning. I am so grateful that I did have a day off from the household drudgeries but it still does not scream romance to me.
I’ve been watching romantic comedies and Downton Abbey for romantic inspiration and I still can’t figure it out!
Am I doomed to a life of non-romance because I can’t figure it out? Wikipedia is not even helpful here!
What is romantic to you, dear reader? Help a sister out!
Heart Facts: Your body has about 5.6 liters (6 quarts) of blood. This 5.6 liters of blood circulates through the body three times every minute. In one day, the blood travels a total of 19,000 km (12,000 miles)—that’s four times the distance across the US from coast to coast.
