Lent 2012: Agnus Dei Lamb Craft

I can’t take the credit for this craft. In fact, I can’t even show you my own pictures of the craft as the rubber balls I bought for this craft seem to have gone… missing.

But please go visit the site where I got the idea/ directions for the Agnus Dei Lamb anyway.

So, this is a cute little lamb that the kiddos can use in the bathtub to wash their grime away, after all, Our Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) washes our sins away!

Based upon John the Baptist’s reference in John 1:29 to Jesus (“Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world”), the text in Latin is:

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.

which means:

Lamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, you who take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
The Agnus Dei comes during the Liturgy of the Eucharist , right before we recite the words of the Centurian:

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

During Lent, we recite the “Sanctus, Sanctus” and the “Agnus Dei” in Latin, which is so cool! Just those two moments of the Mass alone, are enough to make you swoon a bit.
