Last night I met some girlfriends for an evening tea party. The whole nine yards were there: adorable china tea cups, gorgeous tea pots, finger sandwiches and sweet treats. We drank decaf Earl Grey (with a bit of cream… no lemon!), Honey Vanilla Camomile and Cinnamon Apple.
We chatted, like ladies tend to do. The best part about this group is that it is an intergenerational/ interdenominational group (with yours truly being the sole Catholic there last night!) As women tend to do, the conversation turned toward relationships and intimacy and we started talking about the Catholic Church’s stance on contraception. I had the darndest time remember the 3 F’s and a T (Free, Fruitful, Faithful and Total), all of which help to explain lots of stuff within the Church! (It’s funny, I am a much better apologist on the computer than in person… I think it’s because I have time to really sit and think when I am typing, rather than trying to remember facts on the fly!) I could remember “Fruitful and Faithful” but could not remember the other two… I was racking my brain for marriage vows, since the vows mirror the four, but nada.
It was while I was driving home that “Free and Total” popped into my head. Great timing, right? As I was driving, I started thinking more about Free, Total, Fruitful and Faithful. They are a set of words that, together, can be used to describe the ideal Christian lifestyle to lead. And who is the one human female who exemplified leading an idea Christian lifestyle?
Mother Mary!
May is one of the months generally dedicated to Mary and so to honor her, I am launching a series called: “Free, Total, Fruitful and Faithful: Just Like Mary.” And to make it more fun, I’m going to turn this series into a link party! (At least I’ll try to, and I’ll have a week to figure it out!)
