Joining Anne and the gals over at MMD, chatting about bookshelves. We are a family of readers… ok, so the girls and I are readers, but hubs is slowing coming over to our side.
This is the bookshelf in our dining area. It holds books that I tend to reference when blogging, as well and my bible and bible study books. The saddest thing is that while this is the shelf that is most visible in our apartment, it’s also the most disorganized and cluttered. I have reference books and homeschool materials (we homeschool for preschool) all jammed in here too. If I took a wider pic, you see the rest of the stuff: craft supplies, DVDs are in the boxes above the books, and kids’ games and puzzles are below.
Favs on this shelf: The CCC, and some of my style (fashion) books.
Here’s the shelf in the girls room. I tried my best to keep this one somewhat organized but it’s for naught. Besides, I’d rather them read their books, getting them all crazy than to never touch them, right? The piles on the floor are actually bins and are filled up with soft cover/ paperback books. We started doing that because they would so often slip and fall over each other on the shelves (the books, not the kids.) It was easier to pile them in a bin.
Favs: Where the sidewalk ends, The “Mercy Watson” series, Fancy Nancy, Little Golden Books, The BOB books for teaching reading.
This is my parenting and overflow Catholic books shelf. It’s at the top of the stairs, outside of the upstairs washroom. I keep my Dr. Sears books here, as well as my books on breastfeeding and birth. Tucked in, you will find some knit and crochet reference books and way below are my Catholic books. Think Scott Hahn, Lisa Headley, and Matthew Kelley as well as Catholic history books. I also have some writing specific books here, like The Nighttime Novelist and some fun reads like What would Audrey do? and Living the Posh mom life. I also keep yearbooks and some scrapbook albums here.
Favs: Breastfeeding Answers Made Simple, The Vaccine Book, The CS Lewis Collection,
This is the cookbooks shelf above the laundry. Our laundry is off of our kitchen. My absolute favorite is not visible as it has the place of honor on my counter on a little easel. (The Beekman Boys 1802 Heirloom Book.)
Favs: The Family Recipe Binder, French Kids eat Everything, Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food
This is the baby books shelf. This is right at DS’s level so he can grab and eat. We rotate these books out as the rest of the board books are on the girls’ shelf.
And finally, this is how I do most of my pleasure reading. On my iPad and Nook. (The Nook is for the beach because of the sun factor, but the screenshots are of the Nook App on my iPad.) This is not my whole library… only a few snapshot. The little clouds indicate that the title is stored “In the cloud” and not on my device. I’m currently reading the “Ender” series by Orson Scott Card. A wise woman shared how it’s better to enjoy the entertainment in the form it was intended and since hubs wants to see “Ender’s Game,” I zipped through the book. LOVED IT.
Favs: Too many to list.
So there you have it! Hope you enjoyed my shelves and be sure to pop over to MMD to check out other shelves. I know I will!
