Seven Quick Takes Friday: Vol. 50

1.

Fritz is 3 weeks old!! We are adjusting to life as a family of 5 and adjusting to having a newborn around again. It’s really nice to have a snuggly baby who really loves to be in arms.

2.

My mother-in-law flew in from Wisconsin this past Tuesday and it’s been great having her. One of the goals that hubs and I set for before the holidays is to do a purge of the stuff in our house. So far we have tackled the girls’ room but that’s a major step.

3.

FYI and TMI: Being a certified La Leche League leader does not exclude one from breastfeeding problems. I don’t know if it’s a combo of lazy latch and small mouth-to-nipple ratio, but I have a fissure on my right nipple. Needless to say, it’s taking a long time to heal and breastfeeding is not the most comfortable thing right now. But my left side is perfect, so I’m going with that.

4.

Tomorrow is the Big 10 Championship game! Wisconsin vs. Nebraska. Here’s hoping Bucky makes it back to Pasadena!!

5.

Tomorrow is also the day we will decorate the house for Advent/ Christmas. We will be getting a tree and trimming it, but we do try to keep more of the focus on Advent. However, I will not deny. There might be some cookie baking happening. :)

6.

I came across a great tutorial for a DIY ornament wreath and I can’t wait to make my own.

Check it out here!

7.

If you are looking for a bit of Advent inspiration, be sure to check out (and participate in) an Advent Photo Contest over at Beth Anne’s place!

Seven Quick Takes Friday: Vol. 49

1.
We haz new baby!

2.
Frederick (Fritz) Eugene was born at 7:11a PST after about 4 hours of work.

3.
Thursday night, my contractions were a getting stronger and more frequent. This morning, around 3a, I had a dream in which I had a massive contraction that woke me up. Contractions became even stronger and hubs and I headed to hospital at 445a.

4.
We checked in at 505a, and the L&D nurses were a bit doubtful because we were so calm, until I was checked… 7cm.

5.
Around 615a, I hit transition. Little vomiting (sorry!) and contractions were about 90 sec apart, lasting 60 seconds. Around 705a water broke during a contraction and doctor just barely got his gloves on to catch baby.

6.

When baby’s head was halfway out during a contraction, nurse asked me NOT to push (as MD was not ready.) I took a deep breath, looked at my MD and said as calmly as I could “Dr., please take this baby out of my birth canal.”

7.
Two more pushes and Fritz came flying out. 8lbs 6oz, 20 in long. His sisters, and we are in love. We came in as 4 and we’ll leave as 5.

Seven Quick Takes Friday: Vol. 48

1.

Last week’s illness was very short lived. We did not medicate The Bear’s fever and it broke around 5p on Thursday. She was tired and hungry on Friday and Saturday was back to her saucy self.

2.

I know not treating fevers can be kind of controversial, but hubs and I are big believers in not medicating if you really don’t have to. Fevers are a good thing for the body… shows that the immune system is mounting an attack against the foreign invaders. So, we keep a close eye on the fever and the kiddo and let the body work.

3.

There was a little bit of drama surrounding the girls’ Halloween costumes. We ordered parts for their costumes from Amazon and it was delivered via USPS. According to the tracking number, it was delivered last Wednesday… but there was no box. After talking to Amazon and the USPS, we ended up getting a refund and re-ordering the items (the USPS was not much help at all, BTW.) This time, however, I chose 2 day air, guaranteeing it could be delivered via UPS (right to our door) rather than the Post Office (left at the communal mailboxes.) **Update: UPS delivered the package, yesterday.**

4.

It’s kind of hit me that I should really consider packing a hospital bag at some point. I tend to overpack, in general, and I really want to avoid this. I really should have kept a record of what I packed when preggo with the girls. I do have one important item for the bag: Raw Honey in mini-bear bottles for easy to digest fuel for labor.

5.

So… have you seen the Obama Campaign’s “My First Time” Ad? IDK, ladies, it sounds like our vote is only meaningful if it involves voting with our “lady parts” and only voting for “women’s rights” issues. Watch here. What do you think?

6.

On the other hand, I know I (like many of you) are kind of tired of bone-headed politicians pretending they are theologians. Now I am sure there are some politicians who are theologians, and I sincerely pray they are not the ones spouting off any variation of nonsense that any rape is OK as long as it’s: legitimate, honest, emergency or, the latest, God-Willed. I’m going to go Catholic on you for a bit here: Evil exists in the world. Since the Fall, Man (general) has been open to attacks by the evil one. Rape (and other acts of violence) is not God-Willed; Rape is the result of us living in a Fallen World. But the bigger question remains: If a child is conceived during an evil act, does that make the child expendable?

7.

On a lighter note, did you have a chance to check out  “What I wore Sunday” ? What did you think?
